Grandpa's Day with the Grand Kids!

It is always such a blessing to be able to take my grand kids down to the playgrounds. I think the most enjoyable part is just talking with Jack and Sammy while we were walking to the playgrounds. They both have their own little personalities and boy can they carry on a conversation. We like to play, "See how many animals you can find" while walking, and it seems like there are always cats, dogs, and plenty of insects to look at.

Once at the playgrounds Jack and Sammy enjoyed the Big Tire, Tire Swing, and climbing on the Jungle Gym. I just love the bottom photo where Jack and Sammy are standing in the playground parking lot posing for grandpa.

Visit with Opal

Margaret and I met with Opal at the Subway in Sutherlin this afternoon for a visit. Opal had spent the weekend in Florence and was heading back home. We had a really nice visit along with a really good tasting subway sandwich.

The Assurance of Salvation

One of the more annoying problems in Christians' lives is the issue of assurance of salvation. We've all been there. We've all wondered if we are really saved or not. We've looked at our lives and actions and thoughts and sometimes just said, "How can I be saved if I am like this?" I've counseled many Christians who have doubted their salvation and who have worked themselves into a worry and sometimes even depression over the issue. I've always thought that the solution was pretty basic. I ask the person, "Why do you think you might not be saved?" Almost always the reason is, "Because I have a sin in my life. Because I can't beat this one sin. Because of my thoughts. Because I keep failing." "Okay," I say. "So you know you're supposed to be doing better than you are, right?" "Yes," they say. "I am supposed to be doing better and I'm not. This is why I doubt that I am saved." So, I give them this illustration. (Click on "Title" for Bible study.)

Update on Bonnie Lemke

The following was copied from Bonnie's website today. Continue to keep Bonnie and her family in your prayers.

Saturday, June 13, 2009 4:55 PM, CDT

I ended up in the hospital yesterday and actually thought I would be headed home by now. My Doc wanted me to be checked out at the U. So Josh n Sarah came and got me yesterday morning and drove me down.

Unfortunately my temp spiked back up to 101.8 so now another 24 hour wait. They are thinking they are tumor fevers but not sure.

Anyway I remembered how last years fevers came down with all of the prayers. So I could use a little help with some cooling prayers. Thank you so much and God Bless Bonnie

Tara's 8th Grade Graduation!

Can you believe that our little granddaughter, Tara, is old enough to graduate from the 8th grade! Margaret and I drove up to Albany on Wednesday the 10th, to watch Tara receive several awards and her 8th grade diploma. We are so proud of her.

After attending Tara's graduation, we drove on up to Newberg where we had a good visit with Jeannine and mom. Terry, Evielou, Herbietta and Rusty were also there. Everyone seemed to be doing pretty good. Of course Rusty and Herbietta, who are recently retired are
enjoying the new freedom, just like Margaret and me, in being able to just do the things we want to do, when we want to do them, and not worry about punching a clock anymore.

Jeannine is enjoying her new travel companion (GPS) she picked up awhile back. And, Terry now sits with his new laptop computer. Evielou is having fun with her grandkids and once a week Jeannine goes over to her house and beats her at cards.

Margaret and I also visited with Wayne and Sherrie on Thursday. We had dinner at the Vineyard Steakhouse in Newberg. That was the best steak I had for a long time and it cost less then $10.00. We all had lots of laughs and talked about our grandkids and family.

Special Prayer for Bonnie Lemke

Bonnie is going through more struggles with her ovarian cancer. It seems like the chemo drug is no longer working. Bonnie's doctor wants to put her on another drug, but like before, Medicare does not cover the costs because it is not listed for ovarian cancer. Anyways, please keep Bonnie in your prayers and if you get a chance, visit her website and give her some encouragement. God bless, Lloyd (Click here to go to Bonnie's website.)
